Birding at Felbrigg Hall

I had a nice trip to Felbrigg Hall with the Wensum Valley Bird Society yesterday.

We started from the car park to go round the woodland walk. Not as much singing as we’d thought, but we enjoyed good views of a wren that appeared to be building a nest in a tree stump; one or two treecreepers and a pair of lesser redpoll, which was the best view I’d ever had of them.

After a very civilized break for a cup of coffee and a cake or scone at the cafe, we went on the lake walk in lovely sunshine and had good views of oystercatcher, mandarin and herons. We thought the back on the far side of the lake might attract sand martins so I’d better go back in May to look.
